Killer Bee: Strut Spelling Stuff at Lakefront Brewery
Lakefront Brewery's Spelling Bee Showdown combines spelling and trivia for gift card prizes while raising funds and supplies for Milwaukee Public Schools.

If you’re the kind of person who doesn’t get heart palpitations from the mere thought of standing in front of a room full of people and attempting to spell a word, then Lakefront Brewery has an event for you!
The Spelling Bee Showdown is happening on Monday, March 9th. It’s your chance to show you don’t have a complete and utter reliance on technology to sound semi-literate when writing emails, text messages, or, ahem, newsletter articles. This team event combines a classic spelling bee with a bit of trivia mixed in, too. Winners will walk away with Lakefront gift cards in addition to a slightly inflated ego.
The competition is part of an effort to raise money and collect supplies for Milwaukee Public Schools, put on by Lakefront’s Ripple Effect program. The brewery is donating 10% of food and beverage sales that day and will be collecting guest donations to the Milwaukee Public Schools Foundation all week long. Cash isn’t the only way to help. Spellers and their entourages can also bring new and gently used school supplies to the event.
There’s no word on whether there are less mentally taxing activities planned for those with a less firm grasp on proper letter arrangement. Maybe they’ll have one of those punching bag strength-tester things or a ball of yarn for us to play with while the Honor Rollers flex their mind muscles.
The event starts at 6:30 p.m. Seating is first-come, first-served, so get there early. There are a few reservations available, though. Check Lakefront Brewery’s website to learn more about the event, find out how you can donate, and see if there are any reserved tables left.
You don’t have much time to brush up on “I before e, except after c” and all the other tricks before showtime. But no worries if you’re not feeling up for the spell-off. You can always join the C students for the arm wrestling tournament in the back.
