Big News Regarding Big Ball of Twine

One of the world’s largest balls of twine has a new home in Highland, Wisconsin.

The popular roadside attraction needed to be relocated after the man who created it passed away in January.

James Frank Kotera hailed from the town about 30 miles southeast of Superior and did his string collecting there. JFK, as he was known, spent 44 years making the 24,100-pound ball, which was once designated as the world’s heaviest.

Friends and neighbors in the community raised money to cover the cost of the move. It’s now located in a new shelter built on city property that’s home to the town’s fire department and its transfer station.

JFK worked as an attendant at the station and was renowned for his commitment to the job and credited with saving the town a substantial amount of money with his efficiency. In fact, town officials went as far as renaming the transfer station after him.
