Cheers to the Weekends

Published On: May 28, 2022

Memorial Day in Wisconsin marks the unofficial start of summer, so while you may just be settling into this weekend, it’s not too soon to be thinking about the next.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Free Fun Weekend is coming up on June 4th and 5th, with all required admission fees, trail passes, and fishing licenses waived.

This annual event is a welcome break from the high price of pleasure. Because no matter how you define fun, chances are it involves reaching into the ol’ wallet to make it happen.

Visitors can enjoy 49 state parks, 15 state forests, and 44 state trails, as well as fishing on 84,000 miles of rivers and streams and 15,000 lakes. Camping fees and fishing regulations still apply, however. This indicates the DNR may be playing fast and loose with the word “free” and possibly also “fun”. That’s for you to decide. Maybe spending money is your idea of a good time.
