It’s a Sausagebration

As everybody knows, Fred Usinger would have wanted as many people as possible to share in the holiday bounty.

The 2022-23 holiday season is finally drawing to a close with the arrival of Fred Usinger Day on Thursday, February 23rd. While those other red-letter days on the calendar are not without their charm, they simply can’t compare to a celebration of cased meats.

For any recent transplants who may not know, Fred Usinger was the founder of local institution Usinger’s Sausage. And his legacy is celebrated in Milwaukee and around Wisconsin annually this coming Thursday.

Of course life is hectic in the run-up to the big day with everything that needs to be done. But between hanging decorating, socializing with old friends and trips to the mall to secure last-minute gifts, it’s important not to forget about the true meaning of Fred Usinger Day: eating sausage.

In the spirit of the season, Old German Beer Hall in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is giving away free Usinger’s brats between 8 am and 8 pm on Thursday, or as long supplies last. There is a limit of one link per customer. Because, as everybody knows, Fred Usinger would have wanted as many people as possible to share in the holiday bounty.

At 6 p.m., Fredrick Usinger IV will tap a keg of beer from Munich Hofbrauhaus. The event also has live music and broadcasts, including a solo performance by none other than Mike Schneider, polka extraordinaire who entertained guests of the 3rd Annual Curd Fest at the DW Pub.

The Old German Beer Hall is located at 1009 N. King Drive in Milwaukee, which is just steps from the Drink Wisconsinbly Pub. So, once you’re done enjoying your bratwurst and beer, be sure to stop by to keep the Fred Usinger Day party rolling with a Drink Wisconsinbly Brandy Old Fashioned and a few Fred Usinger carols.
