Sharp Shooting + Shots: New Slingshot Bar Opening Soon in West Allis

If you ever saw Dennis the Menace shooting his slingshot in a comic and it made you want to have a drink for some strange reason, a new bar in West Allis might be just the place for you.

Slingshot Bar is exactly what the name suggests — a bar with a 60-foot slingshot shooting range inside. It’s the latest concept from Bars & Recreation, the Milwaukee-based hospitality company that manages other “activity bars” in the city, including axe-throwing establishment, AXE MKE, indoor mini golf bar, Nine Below, and our (Drink Wisconsinbly Pub) neighbor in the Deer District, The New Fashioned, to name a few.

The range is described as a “junkyard jungle” and features both moving and stationary targets for guests to plunk with projectiles. This first-of-its-kind concept provides a lively setting to blow off steam or show off for your date.

They’re hosting a ceremonial ribbon cutting on Oct. 9, but the shots really start slinging during the Grand Opening Weekend that runs from Oct. 10 through Oct. 12. Visitors will have a chance to sample a special Apricot Pale Ale from Ope! Brewing Co., made for the occasion called, “Ope! You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out.” They’ll also have a chance to win a Polaris Slingshot, which is one of those three-wheeled vehicles that make your car seem extremely dull when they zip past you on the highway.

Public reservations start on Wednesday, Oct. 15, but walk-ins are also welcome. We couldn’t find any policy about bringing your own slingshot, but why in the world would you be walking around with a slingshot at your age?

Even though it’s a bar, it’s a family-friendly destination — at least during the day — and there’s a private event space for your group outings and unusual corporate team-building sessions. Know that there is training and safety goggles for everybody, so it’s not some sort of OK Corral-style free-for-all, even though that would do more to pump up organizational morale than 100 trust falls, at least if you managed not to get hit.
