Wisconsin Pie Dominance Continues

As you certainly know, Wisconsin is the class of the nation in beer, brandy, cheese, bratwurst, cranberries, and professional football. But did you know we also have American’s top pie shop?

Stockholm Pie and General Store has been selected as the top purveyor of pies in the nation by USA Today’s Reader Choice Awards, 10BEST.

The shop, located in the village of Stockholm, just north of Pepin, outclassed the competition for the second year in a row.

Needless to say, the Blue Owl Restaurant & Bakery in Kimmswick, Missouri, didn’t know what hit them.

The competition invites readers to submit nominations, which are then narrowed down by editors who select the final winners. The public then votes on their favorites over the course of a month.

During that time, Aunt Netters Cafe of Lecompton, Kansas, probably convinced themself that this was their year, but they were sorely mistaken.

Stockholm Pie and General Store offers more than 20 varieties on weekends to lure in the locals. In addition, they also provide shipping for pie-lovers beyond reasonable driving distance.

Judypie of Grapevine, Texas, probably wasn’t counting on that kind of widespread appeal when they chose to enter the pie battle royale. You better believe they know now though.

Wisconsin’s dominance didn’t end there. Norske Nook finished fourth in the poll. A Drink Wisconsinbly investigation found voting irregularities from the shops that placed second and third, but that’s a Week in Review article for another time.

Even though they finished ahead of one Wisconsin shop, they still couldn’t reach the top of Pie Mountain.

So, better luck next time, Mixed Fillings Pie Shop of Jacksonville, Florida, and Bingham’s Restaurant of Kingsley, Pennsylvania. Remember, you come at the king, you best not miss.
